Flashpoint On ITV3

ITV have gone all out to provide viewers with quality new drama this season and here’s a look at what’s coming up soon…

Flashpoint

Enrico Colantoni and Amy Jo Johnson star in this brand-new 13-part series, which will premiere on ITV3 in the UK.

The Strategic Response Unit is a team of cops like no other. They’re the elite. They handle the calls no ordinary cops can. High risk is their business and life-and-death stakes are their world.

They’re unique. No other SWAT team in the world is trained in both state-of-the-art weaponry and psychological profiling and negotiation – a combination of tactical brilliance and emotional intelligence that allows this team to peer inside a suspect’s head and defuse the most delicate psychological threat.

Flashpoint takes us inside the lives of this unbelievable team – on and off the job. These cops are heroes. But they’re also human. They go home every day, haunted by what they’ve seen, by what they’ve had to do.

Flashpoint is a series that will last as long as there are people in crisis, and police officers willing to come to their aid.

Whitechapel

“I am down on whores and I shan’t quit ripping them till I do get buckled…”

Rupert Penry Jones, Phil Davis and Steve Pemberton lead the cast in a darkly atmospheric new ITV thriller, Whitechapel.

Set in 2008 against the contrasting facades of Whitechapel, London; a series of bloody, tragic and impossible crimes suggest someone is carrying out copycat Jack the Ripper murders.

In a city under the constant CCTV surveillance and safe in the knowledge that DNA evidence helps catch even the most dangerous criminal, this modern day Ripper still manages to recreate the slaughter with alarming accuracy while mirroring the red herrings and twisted idiosyncrasies connected to the original case.

The murders are investigated by three unlikely heroes: Chandler, a fast-tracked, media savvy DI on his first big murder case; Miles, nearing retirement, a front-line, hard-bitten DS, now saddled with a boss who would rather talk about Emotional Intelligence than gut feeling; and Buchan, the expert on myths and legends behind unexplained or violent deaths and eccentrically brilliant Ripperologist.

A modern police force is fighting an old adversary; an adversary who was never caught. Our heroes have a race against time to prevent further bloodshed.

Father & Son

A new four part drama starring Dougray Scott, Sophie Okonedo, Stephen Rea and Ian Hart is coming soon to ITV.

A sophisticated and deftly-plotted thriller from the pen of Emmy award-winning Frank Deasy. Filming is currently underway on location in Ireland and Manchester.

Set against the backdrop of Ireland’s once rapid economic resurgence, Father & Son depicts the complexity of modern inner city life where crime is now a global business and where gun culture is an ever more entrenched part of everyday life. Ex-criminal Michael O’Connor returns to Manchester from a quiet life in Ireland to save his teenage son from prison, but also to redeem his own troubled past.

ITV’s Director of Drama Commissioning, Laura Mackie, is delighted with the project: “Father & Son is a compelling, multi-layered thriller that will engage and entertain with every plot twist and turn. The scripts are undeniably gripping and the cast is very impressive.”

Above Suspicion

And finally, a brand new crime drama from the pen of the Prime Suspect creator is coming to ITV. Fresh from being honoured with a CBE, TV writer Lynda La Plante has launched a major new female detective in a gripping thriller, Above Suspicion.

Based on her best-selling novel, the two-part drama introduces DC Anna Travis, a young and ambitious officer who is fast-tracking her way through the ranks. She is eager to prove herself and be as successful as her late father.

Kelly Reilly plays Travis while film and TV star Ciaran Hinds stars as her boss, the volatile Detective Chief Inspector Langton.

The two-hour drama is being filmed in London in July, for transmission in 2008.

Lynda La Plante was the writer of such classic crime dramas as Prime Suspect, Widows, The Governor, The Commander and Trial and Retribution.

Lynda, who was awarded the CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, said: “This is the first time that one of my books has been adapted for the UK screen and I am thrilled.

“In creating Anna Travis, an officer just out of training, I can explore what it is like for a young detective to face their first murder inquiry, the emotion that comes with that as well the pressure and intrigue of the investigation.

“Kelly Reilly for me was so right for this role, she not only embodies the character with her red hair and striking looks, but more than that, she brings her own experience of being the daughter of a policeman. It is that understanding and shared experience that will help her bring Anna to life on the screen.

“I have always been enamoured of Ciaran Hinds the actor. He brings a weight and stature that is required to play DCI Langton. We have worked together before and I have always hoped we would work together again. I am thrilled that he will be Langton.”
