Former Corrie star Bruce Jones escapes prison

Ex-Coronation Street actor Bruce Jones avoided a prison sentence yesterday when he received a suspended sentence for dangerous driving at Mold Crown Court.

57 year old Bruce allegedly yelled at his wife Sandra, “I’ll kill us both!” before grabbing the wheel of the couple’s Mercedes and causing Sandra to force him to let go before she pulled over to avoid a collision.

The couple were traveling on the A55 in North Wales at the time of the incident.

The Sun reports the Bruce – whose real name is Ian Roy Jones – pleaded guilty to the charges that were brought arising from the incident.

The judge who heard the case told Jones, “You threatened to kill both you and your wife and you jerked the steering wheel up and down, causing the car to swerve within its lane.

“It is fortunate for you and all others around you that your wife had her wits about her.

“It is all too easy to see if the cards had fallen differently this might have ended in a fatality for you or your wife or for many other drivers.”

Jones was also ordered to attend a 26-week long rehab programme in order to address his problem drinking. And he has also publically stated that it’s his intention to “sort out” his life.

In response, the judge said, “The efforts you are making to turn your life around are impressive.”

However, in addition to the 18 month suspended sentence, Jones was also ordered to carry out 100 hours unpaid work and was issued a 12-month supervision order.

He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months and told he must pay £1,000 towards both prosecution’s and his own legal costs.
