Former Coronation Street actress, Tina O’Brien, has admitted she is fearful of her character in the hit ITV soap, Sarah Louise Grimshaw, being recast by another actress.
O’Brien, who played the role for 8 years, quit the show back in 2007 to have her daughter, Scarlet, with ex-boyfriend, and current Coronation Street actor, Ryan Thomas, who plays her former on-screen husband, Jason Grimshaw in the soap.
During her time on the award-winning soap, O’Brien took her character to new levels with some of the most controversial story lines the soap has ever seen, including teenage pregnancy and internet grooming, but fans saw her leave her husband and family behind to embark on a new life in Milan with her young daughter in 2007.
However, now the actress is worried that her famous role will be given to someone else, and has said she would much rather do it herself if the character was to return to the soap.
Speaking to the Mirror newspaper, O’Brien commented:
“Sometimes I think they could bring Sarah-Lou back but with a different face, played by someone else, That happens – but it would be awful!”
Sarah’s on-screen family are no strangers to having members re-cat, her alter-ego’s half-brother, Nick Tilsley, is currently on his third actor, after Ben Price took over the role from Adam Rickitt in 2009.
And it would seem that bosses at Coronation Street are equally as enthusiastic to get the actress back on set as they made her a come-back offer whilst she was starring in Waterloo Road:
“They did ask me back once, but I’d just signed to do Waterloo Road so there was no way I could,”
“I had the best eight years ever on Corrie, I loved it. But I had been there since I left high school at 16 and felt I had to go.
“It was all I’d known and I had to get out and experience the big wide world. But now that I’m older, yes, I would love the opportunity to go back one day.”
O’Brien, who has recently revealed that she intends to settle down and have more kids with her current partner, has been active in the world of entertainment since leaving the cobbles of Weatherfield, taking part in BBC shows Waterloo Road, Strictly Come Dancing and Call the Midwife, since her exit.
