Former Doctor Who David Tennant to star as a French spy in new BBC4 drama
Former Doctor Who star David Tennant has landed a role in a new drama written by
writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais – who co-wrote Likely Lads, Porridge and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet – which is based on the original novel by Alan Furst.
Entitled, The Spies of Warsaw, the new drama will air on BBc4, and in it, Tennant will star alongside Merlin actress Janet Montgomery. Also on the cast list are Ludger Pistor, Ann Eleonora Jørgensen, Jan Pohl, Rad Kaim, Burn Gorman, Ellie Haddington and Dan Fredenburgh.
David plays the role of a French spy, who’s drawn into the dark world of espionage during the second world war. The story focuses on events in Poland, London and Paris during the war years.
Of the drama, BBC Four controller Richard Klein said, “Spies Of Warsaw is an entertaining, thrilling and insightful drama with a very different take on the Second World War…
“Seen through the eyes of characters who know from the start that they and their fellow countrymen will face the brunt of the horrors to come, this is top class drama, and perfect for BBC Four.”
Filming is due to commence next month in Poland.
