Jenna-Louise Coleman, the actress who played murdering lesbian Jasmine Thomas in ITV’s Emmerdale, may have had her new Doctor Who character named as Clara!
According to fans of the iconic sci-fi show, they have heard Coleman’s character referred to as ‘Clara’ on the set of the new series, which is currently being filmed.
Coleman, who recently starred in the epic ITV drama, Titanic, was confirmed as Karen Gillan’s replacement as the Time Lord’s assistant a few months ago, but, as with most things Doctor Who, the identity of her character has been kept a well guarded secret.
However one fan with an acute sense of hearing has claimed to have overheard producers using the name Clara during filming, revealing the new assistants identity!
The fan took to social networking site, Twitter, to announce their findings, tweeting: ‘Jenna Louise is CLARA,’
Even Coleman herself was kept in the dark about her character, having being told very little about her by production staff, and relying on only snippets of storyline information to prepare for the part.
Speaking to Doctor Who magazine the actress, who’s Emmerdale character is currently serving a life sentence for murdering a policeman with ex girlfriend, Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb), admitted: “I know what my introduction is and I have a general idea of where we’re going to go. There’s definitely a story arc.
“It sounds really interesting, really exciting.
“I don’t think anything’s been done like it before, but there are lots of secrets and intrigue, and I think it’s going to throw and confuse a lot of people, and surprise a lot of people.”
Meanwhile, the Doctor’s current assistant, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and her partner Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) are getting ready for what has been described by Gillan as a very emotional exit, with the award-winning star even confessing that she could not stop crying when reading the script, when they bow out of the show later this year.
