Former X Factor winner Joe McElderry to star in Corrie musical, Street of Dreams

Former X Factor winner Joe McElderrry has landed a role in the Corrie musical, Street of Dreams.

Joe, who also won Popstar to Operastar last year, joins a cast that’s made up of Coronation Street’s star, past and present, including Kym Marsh, Julie Goodyear and Kevin Kennedy.

Joe will feature in the musical, which is to be narrated by comic Paul O’Grady, during its final nights in Newcastle at the town’s Metro Radio Arena on May 29 and 30. He’s expected to join the cast in singing, Ghosts – Take My Hand.

Of landing the guest star role, Joe told What’s On TV, “I’m a massive fan of the show so it’s really exciting to perform the finale song.”

He added, “I’ve seen bits and pieces [of the musical] at meetings to discuss the project.

“It’s kind of like Moulin Rouge meets Coronation Street. It’s really good. It’s a little dip into musical theatre for me, I suppose…”

And of the stars he’ll be appearing with for the show, Joe said, “I haven’t met them all yet – I’ve met Paul before and get on really well with him – but I will do soon.

“They’re all amazing and it will be brilliant to work with them.

“It will be different for me. I’m used to performing on my own in my own shows so it will be nice to be part of a big production with such talented people.”
