It has been revealed that Nathalie Emmanuel will become a series regular during the fifth season of Game of Thrones, which means she will have a considerably bigger role next year, but she will remain as a recurring character for the fourth run which kicks off next month.
Emmanuel plays the role of Missendei, Daenerys Targaryen’s translator and assuming the drama does actually gets picked up for a fifth season – which I’d bet my left arm on that it will – Emmanuel will have a big part to play, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Sticking with season 4 for the moment, Missendei has been described as “a former slave with a gift for languages who becomes Daenerys’ confidant and trusted adviser”.
Now, we already know that Missendei is quite an integral part of Daenerys’ storyline and we know that Daenerys’ role gets upped during the fifth season of the show. Doing the math, that also seems like Missendei will also have a big part to play on the 2015 run.
The same applies for Michiel Huisman who has recently been promoted as a series regular. His character, the charming warrior Daario Naharis is linked quite heavily with Daenerys’, so as far as season five is concerned he will play a big role and we know that from the news that he will take on a series regular role.
Entertainment Weekly also reports that Game of Thrones has a whopping 29 series regular’s in its cast, which is probably the highest number of regulars on any TV series!
Meanwhile, at the end of January, a number of brand new promotional photos ahead of the season 4 premiere were unveiled.
What we have noticed is that there’s one or two newbies mixed in with the photos, so we finally get a glimpse of Pedro Pascal as The Red Viper and Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand.
The Red Viper is set to head to King’s Landing to seek revenge on the Lannister’s as Gregor Clegane murdered his sister when King Aerys was overthrown by Robert Baratheon.
It also looks like Tyrion Lannister is up to no good again as he continues his secret love affair with Shae, but she looks less than happy, Olenna Tyrell is hatching a master plan and King Joffrey Baratheon is still the most hated person in the Seven Kingdoms.
Jamie Lannister is also seen sporting a new gold hand after his was chopped off last season.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 6.
