Gavin & Stacey star James Corden to pay Father Christmas in festive Britflick, School For Santas!
It’s been revealed today that Gavin & Stacey star James Corden – he of course co-wrote the show with Ruth Jones as well as playing the part of Smithy – has landed a role in new British comedy film, School For Santas.
According to The Sun, James will play the role of a down-on-his luck dad who finds his “inner Santa” in a bid to reconcile with his estranged kids. The movie, which is described as “big-budget” will begin filming next year.
Of the role, James told me, “All my life I’ve wanted to make a big family Christmas movie.
“To be making one with a company like Working Title Films is a dream come true…
“Re-teaming with Richard Bean and Kris Thykier is like all my Christmases have come at once. I can’t wait to start.”
Filming will take place in New York and London.
The paper adds, “James’s son Max will be three by the time it comes out — just the right age to be soaking up the excitement of Christmas.”
I keep hoping – year in year out – that James and Ruth will write another Gavin & Stacey Christmas special. The one and only festive episode that they wrote is compulsory viewing in my house on a weekly basis as of about November 5th.
Here’s a reminder of its sheer brilliance…
