Georgia Taylor – who’s about the end her run on BBC medical drama Casualty – has revealed that she’d love to return to Coronation Street to reprise her role as Toyah Battersby.
Fans will recall that Georgia left Corrie in 2003 when her character left Weatherfield to find her fortune in London after her BFF Maria Sutherland – who is now of course Maria Connor and played by Samia Smith – had an affair with Toyah’s boyfriend.
Maria became pregnant, but subsequently aborted the baby.
As Toyah, Georgia had one of the soap’s biggest and most controversial storylines when she was raped and beaten in 2001.
Her attacker – who turned out to be Toyah’s new friend Phil Simmonds, who was played by Jack Beam – left her for dead, but fortunately, Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) found her alive, but in a bad way, the next morning.
For a while, Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) was suspected, but cleared on DNA evidence.
Of a possible return to the show, Georgia told the PA, “I suppose because it’s been so long you could kind of reinvent that character if you want.
“She’s meant to have been in London for the last eight years, so you could paint in a back story of anything happening in those eight years.
“In a way you’d have to re-invent her because I felt most of my time on that show was playing a teenager.
“I’m 31 now – so automatically that changes things anyway! I’d never say never because I do really love the show.”
And while recalling her first day on-set in 1997, Georgia said, “I just remember I had scenes with Jane Danson, who obviously is back in it. She plays Leanne.
“I just remember we were in the first scene of the day and the last scene of the day, and in the middle of that we had about nine hours off.
“Normally when you get settled into a show with nine hours off you go: ‘Is it all right if we nip out to the shops and have a bit of lunch?’
“But because it was our first day we sat in the green room for nine hours!
“We were just so happy to be there. It was so exciting.”
We’ll see Georgia for the last time in Casualty on December 10th, so maybe – hopefully – she’ll be back on the cobbles soon!
Here’s a clip of Georgia as Toyah from 1997, and as you’ll see, there are a few young faces among the cast on that New Year’s Eve who’re still there!
