He might be happy playing cross dressing Kris Fisher in Hollyoaks, but Gerard McCarthy has admitted that he would really love to land a role in ITV soap, Corrie.

Gerard told MyPark magazine: “I’d love to be part of the Connor family in Coronation Street – they are in desperate need of a real Irish member.

“And when I was growing up, I always wanted to play Jim McDonald’s long-lost son.”

Gerard’s dream may have something to do with the fact that he is close friends with Corrie star, Kym Marsh.

He said: “Kym is one of my best mates. We both appeared in the West End musical Saturday Night Fever in 2003, and I love her to bits.

“She only lives about 20 minutes from me so we often hook up and hang out with her kids.”
