Having worked most of my career in manufacturing I can tell you that labour accounts for only about 5% or so of the final product price. I believe the true barrier in the UK/EU is the massive overhead costs of taxes, insurance, business rates and social/regulatory costs. UNLESS of course someone can provide data to the contrary?
