Ghost Whisperer Series Finale - The Gathering

In the series 2 finale of Ghost Whisperer, Melinda meets up with a man who’s been tracking down the survivors of the 11 May disasters. He introduces her to the kids he’s found and shows her their drawings that show Melinda with a lantern. He tells her that he thinks the missing survivor from the Grandview plane crash has some part in the mystery.
Back at home, Jim’s concerned and wants to take Melinda away until after the 11 May, but she refuses. She meets up with Professor Payne and they talk about what might be the fifth sign of the pending apocalypse.
At night, Melinda has a dream conversation with her grandmother. She cryptically warns Melinda not to be afraid and to “protect the balance”.
She finally tracks down Kirsten - the girl from the plane crash - and asks her father to consider letting her come to Grandview to meet the other kids. He refuses, but shows Melinda one of Kirsten’s drawings which she takes away. Before leaving, she sees Kirsten at a window looking back at her. She does not look amused at Melinda.
Payne and Melinda work out that the drawings relate to a dedication ceremony being held at the crash site. She reveals her secret to Ethan Clarke, and he quizzes her about her abilities, mentioning that his wife believed she had some kind of psychic ability too.
En route to plead with the Mayor to cancel the dedication, she encounters a ghost looks for help. As she tells him it’s not a good time, he seems to be grabbed by an invisible force and dragged into the earth. At the same time she sees Gabriel following Delia across the square and she almost gets hit by a truck.
Back at the store, Delia is shaken, but Kirsten has arrived at the store. Melinda takes her to Ethan’s house to meet the other kids and she talks to them about their near-death experiences. Talking to Ethan later, she discovers that his wife is actually the prophet ghost who’s been helping her.
However, back at the store, Melinda sees Gabriel talking to Ethan across the square. She talks this over with Payne, and they realise that if the two are in cahoots (I lvoe that word), then the children may pose a threat to them and they may be in danger.
Sure enough, when they go to Ethan’s house, they find that Ethan and the children are missing. They track Ethan down in Grandview and he reveals that Gabriel has told him not to help her. Melinda helps him talk to Dana, his wife, and he tells her Gabriel took the children to the dedication (didn’t see that one coming, did you?)
As they arrive at the dedication site, Melinda and Rick Payne spot Gabriel in the crowd. A group of menacing ghosts moves into the field and disappears as a storm fills the sky. They disrupt the monument and bring it crashing down on the five children. However, Melinda intervenes in time to push them out of the way.
As she gets up, Kirsten is crying, saying “This is what I saw.” We see Melinda’s lifeless body on the ground - her head has struck a rock. Melinda is now a ghost, and to prove the point, Jim straight through her to get to her body. Gabriel mocks her by holding up five fingers - meaning her death is the fifth sign, death of a loved one.
In her ghostly state, Melinda meets a shadowy man (who looks strangely like Jim in silhouette) who tells her that she has a brother and she must now face the darkness that’s always been inside her. At the same time, the children are surrounding her body. The man disappears and Melinda comes back to life.
She tells Jim what happened while she was dead, about having a brother. Jim asks her who told her this and she breathlessly replies - “My father”.
So the series ends on tenterhooks - who is Melinda’s brother? Is it Gabriel? And what about her long missing father, is he dead, or can he communicate with her psychically? Roll on series 3!
