It’s an incredible day for British rockers Alt-J as it has been confirmed that they’ve finally achieved a number one on the Official Albums Chart.

Their latest album ‘This Is All Yours’ – which is their second release has managed to keep a total of eight new entries on the chart from that top spot.

Alt-J’s award winning debut album ‘An Awesome Wave’ entered the chart back when it was released back in 2012 but only managed to reach number (13) on the chart.

Vocalist for the band Gus told OfficialCharts.com after the midweek announcement that he was “squirming” in anticipation to see whether or not they could hold onto the lead.

Now it’s official, he explained: “We’re over the moon to see our album at number one. It was never something we thought we’d achieve, but it’s our fans who have put us there so we owe this to them.”

Chief Executive of the Official Charts Company Martin Talbot commented: “Mercury Prize winners Alt-J may well be established as critics darlings, but it is great to see them score their first Official Number 1 (as well as their first Top 10) in the Official Albums Chart this week.”

Alt-J managed to finish the week 5,000 copies ahead of ‘Partners’ from Barbra Streisand which is at Number (2) while Sam Smith’s ‘In The Lonely Hour’ remains at Number (3).

For George Ezra, his debut album ‘Wanted On Voyage’ climbs two places into Number (4) while ‘Popular Problems’ from Leonard Cohen is at Number (5) after he celebrated his 80th birthday.

In joint place at Number (10) with ‘Cheek To Cheek’ is Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga with their duet album while Professor Green is at Number (12) with ‘Growing Up In Public’.

Erasure and their sixteenth studio album ‘The Violet Flame’ is at Number (20) on the chart this week, and following his iTunes Festival performance recently Lenny Kravitz is back.

His new album ‘Strut’ is at Number (21) on the chart this week while the 2014 Original Cast Recording of the hit musical Miss Saigon is at Number (25) as they celebrate its 25th Anniversary.
