Chris Colfer has joked that he feels “bitter” because Glee has made singing in school cool.

The 20-year-old actor, best known as Kurt Hummel in the hit US TV show told The Guardian that now people all round the world want to join their school choirs because of their success. He said:

“Now, because of the show, it’s not [unpopular], which kind of makes me bitter.

“Now it’s the cool thing, and I feel like, ‘Well, you’re welcome America! You’re welcome world!’”

Amber Riley, who plays Mercedes Jones, said that her love of singing and performing as a teenager made her feel isolated and alone.

She said:

“I didn’t really fit in anywhere, and I didn’t know why. But I just wanted to get through it. I didn’t really care about having friends – I have a huge family, so they were my friends – and I just kept my head down, stayed out of trouble, did my work, and graduated.”
