It has been revealed that Spring Awakening star Skylar Astin will cameo in a forthcoming episode of Glee.

We also know that he will play quite the threat to the New Directions…

Glee isn’t set to return to FOX until February and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Astin will play Jean-Baptise, the leader of Throat Explosion who will be competition for the New Directions at Nationals.

The news was confirmed by an instagram picture posted by Darren Criss which sees Criss, Chord Overstreet and Skylar in the photo.

Not an awful lot is known about his role on the show, but we do know that he won’t be appearing until March.

Lea Michele, who starred alongside him on Spring Awakening has been hoping to get Astin on the show for some time.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter back in October 2012, she said: “We’ve been trying! I wanted them to see him for Brody and for so many characters along the way, but he just has to stop being a movie star and doing so many movies! I’m his biggest fan, he’s one of my best friends, and I couldn’t be happier for him and his success. He’s amazing in Pitch Perfect. The minute I can get him on Glee, I want him on the show”.

Elsewhere, it was reported yesterday that Adam Lambert’s stint on the show is “all up in the air” at the moment.

Although Lambert may be a huge fan of the show and is loving his time on set, he isn’t looking to become a series regular on the show, unfortunately. Over the next few months, Adam has quite a busy schedule and has a number of projects in the pipeline which doesn’t leave time to become a regular on Glee.

Speaking to E! Online at TrevorLive, he said: “I’m having a good time popping in here and there because I have a lot of other stuff in the mix right now”.

He went on to tell the online outlet: “I’ve been learning a lot. I hope that people love what we’re doing”.

At the moment, Glee is on winter break until February, but Lea Michele took to Twitter earlier this week to say that she had been in dance rehearsals with Lambert and was looking forward to their upcoming duet.

She tweeted: “Back to #Glee today. Dance rehearsal w/ the amazing @adamlambert! Getting to sing one of my all time favourite female rock songs with him!”
