Glee star Cory Monteith has revealed that before he was given the role of Finn in the show, he’d never sung in public.

The 27 year old Canadian actor told US talk show Entertainment Tonight that though he sings frequently for his role, he had only ever previously sung “in the car or in the shower”.

He said, “I sang in the car, in the shower but never for anyone. That’s scary!

“I never did sing growing up, so it’s a change for me…

“Originally I played the Tupperware drums to show my musical abilities, but I had to ultimately sing for the final audition so I had to figure out how to do that very last minute.”

And while discussing how he landed the part in Glee, Cory said, “When they picked me for the part I thought they were mistaken.

“I thought I was going to be swiftly recast and fired and deported!”

Cory also revealed that in upcoming episodes of the show, the cast will be seen performing a tribute to rock band Kiss.

He said, “I’m dressed up as Gene Simmons. There’s pyrotechnics and some pretty fantastic face paint.

“A fantastic episode.”
