Gok Wan to host new Channel 4 dating show, Baggage
Gok Wan is set to become the metrosexual’s answer to Cilla Black as he’s to host a dating show on Channel 4 entitled, Baggage.
The new show, which is set to air later this year, will apparently feature singletons who are looking for love – and/or wannabe reality TV stars who couldn’t give a toss about finding love – who will “gradually reveal their secrets and flaws” which are “hidden in suitcases.”
Ah see what they did there? Baggage… suitcase. Clever stuff.
A Channel 4 insider told The Sun’s TV Biz, “Bosses really like Gok and they think he will be perfect for a dating show.
“It is hoped Baggage could become as big as Cilla Black’s Blind Date.”
Well with Gok at the helm, it’s surely going to succeed as he has a proven track record with C4 already, having hosted numerous shows about fashion, self-image, and even cookery…
He’s also shown a more serious side – one that isn’t dominated by pink and sequins – by presenting a series of documentaries addressing some of the social problems facing young people, and, drawing on his personal experiences with obesity and homophobia, he’s addressed issues which affect many people in marginalized Britain.
But for me, Gok – who was born Kwokhyn Wan and who has a brother called Kwoklyn – is at his best when presenting something light hearted, and I have to say, he’d be one of my fantasy guests were I to ever assemble a fantasy dinner party.
So I’m really looking forward to Baggage! Are you?
