Gossip Girl is cancelled at end of series six!

The world is waking up to the disappointing news that Gossip Girl is to be cancelled when its current series, series 6, ends later this year.

Even worse, it has also been confirmed that series 6 will only consist of 11 episodes instead of the usual 24!

The ITV2 show, which has been entertaining most of the world with its upper-east side gossip since 2007 in 197 countries, will air in the US in October this year, with filming currently underway in New York.

The last series of the show, stars including Blake Lively,  Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick, is expected to be explosive, with bosses hinting that in the very final episode the true identity of Gossip Girl will be revealed, a plight that Nate (Chase Crawford) has become obsessed with lately.

Crawford commented: “For me, it’s going to be tough to leave New York City. And it’s definitely an end of an era. It was college for everyone really,” he explains.”If I got to write the show, it would be a very different thing. I would make Chuck Gossip Girl and I would turn my character into Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. That would be a weird twist of events.”

Still, since rising to fame with the show five years ago, the cast are not likely to be forgotten anytime soon.  Blake Lively who plays Serena van Der Woodsen, has already appeared in leading roles in films like Green Hornet and The Town, Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald) is in What To Expect When You’re Expecting and  Taylor Momsen, who played Jenny, left in series four to focus on her band The Pretty Reckless.

Oh well, at least when a show ends for good you can buy the complete DVD set quite soon after!
