The fourth series of this powerful, compelling and endearingly quirky drama series, which documents the lives and loves of the doctors and patients at the Seattle Grace hospital, comes to a stunning conclusion this week. In a heartbreaking, earth-shaking emotional rollercoaster of a finale, this week’s double-bill takes all the tensions, relationships and intrigues of the latest, greatest season of Grey’s Anatomy, ties them together and lights a fuse.

In the culmination of the clinical trial that has held their relationship together, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) are given just one more chance to make their pioneering cancer treatment work before the trial is shut down. Their final subjects are a young couple who both have brain tumours, will Meredith and Derek be able to save this doomed romance and, if not, what chance do they have of saving their own?

These star-crossed lovers aren’t the only exceptional patients admitted to Seattle Grace in this finale: a young boy arrives almost entirely encased in concrete and finally, with this unusual case, Cristina (Sandra Oh, Sideways) is given the chance to prove herself as a surgeon. Her colleague, Alex, is not so lucky; as he confronts his girlfriend Rebecca about the pregnancy she has subconsciously invented, it becomes obvious that Rebecca is suffering from more than just stress.
