Show boss Shonda Rhimes had previously revealed that the nuptials would take place during the season premiere this month and it seems that after she was stood up at the altar by Burke during season 3, Cristina wasn’t keen on going all traditional this time round.

Sandra Oh, who plays Dr Yang, told People magazine:

“When she was about to marry Burke many of the decisions weren’t really hers.”

“She never wanted to get married or wear ‘the dress.’ Having a much more relaxed and casual wedding is closer to who she and Owen are.”

Though Cristina doesn’t opt for a traditional white gown, she does don a stunning red dress for the occasion and her maid of honour Meredith chooses to wear formal attire too.

“I think people were more happy and giddy not to be wearing scrubs,” Oh said about her co-stars.
