Yesterday (Friday 14th November) as part of the Billboard Women in Music Awards, another big name was confirmed as being honoured at the ceremony.
The ninth annual Billboard Women in Music Awards will take place on the 12th of December, and Hayley Williams, frontwoman of rock band Paramore, will be honoured at the event.
Billboard confirmed that Williams, who as many of us will already know has had a huge amount of success with Paramore, will accept the first-ever ‘Trailblazer Award’.
The award is given to those females who are considered to be, “A standout female artist who breaks from convention to make a unique mark in music and pave the way for other talent.”
Commenting on being honoured for the awards, Williams said: “I can remember a time when I would have been made fun of for doing things differently.”
The singer went onto add that: “Now I’m getting an award for it? This is too much. I’m so excited!” And quite rightly so!
Hayley continued: “There are women in this industry who totally bulldozed walls down for the likes of me to come along and do what I believe in.”
She concluded: “I want to be that for even one girl in the future. I can’t wait for the event next month and to high-five some of my sisters in music.”
Hayley Williams isn’t the only female musician who will be honoured at the Billboard Women in Music Awards next month of course – though as mentioned above, she’ll the first to receive this new award – as Taylor Swift is also being honoured as Woman of the Year.
Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed that Ariana Grande will be accepting the Rising Star award and Idina Menzel will be given the Breakthrough Artist of the Year award.
Over the coming weeks, Billboard will announce the winners of the Billboard Icon Award and the award for Country Artist of the Year, so make sure you stick with us for all the latest news.
