The episode begins on the subway where future Hiro Nakamura meets Peter Petrelli, and tells him that he has to save the cheerleader, Claire Bennett. He leaves with the advice “Be the one we need”.
Peter tells an incredulous Mohinder what happened with Hiro, but Mohinder walks away unimpressed.
Claire is in the hospital after the crash where she sees a broken up Brody on a gurney. She opens up to Noah and tells him about Brody’s attempted rape, and admits that she lied to him.
Noah visits Brody’s room. He tells him “Claire is a very special girl. It’s confusing what she’s going through and she doesn’t need some punk like you making things worse.” Then Brody is handed over to Noah’s memory erasing friend.
Afterward, Claire visits Brody to apologise for the accident, but he doesn’t even know his own name.
Nathan Petrelli has been captured by Noah Bennett, but escapes by flying away. Pretty quickly too. That’s quite a power he has.
Niki Saunders wakes up in bed as Nathan’s campaign manager walks in. Nathan is missing. Lindermann’s assistant shows her CCTV footage of her in bed with Nathan Petrelli. Tells her to go away and “enjoy her solvency”.
Officer Matt Parkman wakes up on his sofa, without memory of the previous night. His wife is raging because he was AWOL after the argument. Matt can’t remember anything since he passed out in the bar.
Matt tries to make things up to his wife by giving her a special day together. Unfortunately, she is instantly suspicious, but they soon make up. They make love, and afterward Matt heads to the store to buy something to eat. He ‘hears’ an armed man planning to rob the store, but persuades him to drop the gun and leave. Unfortunately, the other customers see him with the gun and think the worst.
I’ve gotta say, Matt’s storyline is so close to the movie “What Women Want”, his part could’ve been played by Mel Gibson…
Hiro and Ando are turfed out of a van on the outskirts of Las Vegas. They come across a diner. They argue and Ando storms off. As Hiro looks out the window, he see Nathan Petrelli land after his flight from Noah Bennett.
Hiro approaches Nathan and shares his secret, but Nathan denies having powers. Hiro tells him about New York and the bomb and also that Nathan wins the election by a landslide. In return, Nathan gives Hiro a ride.
When Nathan returns to Las Vegas, he runs into Niki again. Both appear confused, but Nathan discovers that Niki was blackmailed into sleeping with him to smear his campaign.
When Niki returns home, her house is full of federal agents. Suspecting that she’s in trouble, she discovers they’re looking for her husband. The agents go on red as a man approaches the house. It turns out to be Ando, who is shocked to discover so many guns trained on him!
Ando eventually leaves and is reunited with Hiro, but an intruder is still inside Niki’s house.
Peter visits Isaac Mendez at his apartment, and tells him he believes he can paint the future. He sees Isaac’s paintings and sees a connection in all of them. Isaac tells him that he’s out of money for drugs, and he can’t paint anymore, but Peter manages to replicate his powers and starts to paint. Creepy white eyeballs…
When the painting is finished, Peter and Isaac are looking at a picture of Claire Bennett dead and bleeding. The phone rings, and Peter answers to speak with Hiro and pass on his message…
