It’s not uncommon for songs to be written by an artist only to then be offered to other artist for them to release. It’s happened before and it will continue to happen.
Sometimes a deal is struck and an artist releases a track written by someone else, on other occasions an artist or their management will reject the offer for any number of reasons.
For Charli XCX, this is what has happened to her with her smash hit ‘Boom Clap’ which she originally offered to fellow musician and actress Hilary Duff.
Unfortunately though – and we’d aim that at Duff, her management turned down the track, which Charli XCX went on to release herself and have huge success with… we wonder if they’re kicking themselves now.
The singer-songwriter spoke with the Kyle and Jackie O Show and explained that she’s been a long time fan of Hilary Duff and thought she’d offer her the track.
“I was drunk one day and I thought ‘Let’s give it to Hilary Duff, I’m a fan’. I heard she was recording a new album and thought she probably might like it.”
Boy was she wrong, Charli went on to explain that according to Duff’s management (and we don’t know if Duff herself agreed with them at the time) the track wasn’t cool enough…
Of course the track proved a massive success for Charli who released it herself and we’re sure Hilary was kicking herself after its release.
Charli added: “Actually, when Hilary heard about it, she tweeted and said: ‘Oh my God, if I had known I would have taken it’. She seems really nice.”
We wonder if she means that if she’d known the track was that good, or if she actually didn’t know the track had been offered to her.
The songstress also spoke about an incident recently at Katy Perry’s house where she passed out in her bathroom because she was so hungover.
“I went to her house, but was so hungover, I had one drink and passed out in her bathroom.” – she’s living the rock n roll life, that’s for sure! Check out her video for ‘Boom Clap’ below.
