Holby City’s Luke Roberts has revealed that he will be staying on at the BBC medical drama for at least two years after renewing his contract with the channel.

Luke plays posh doctor Joseph Byrne in the show and MSN quote him as saying:

“I won’t stay forever. I’ve just signed up for another two years, but it’s a cool role.”

Joseph has recently settled down with nurse Faye (Patsy Kensit) but is still drawn towards his ex, Jac (Rosie Marcel). When asked whether his character is finally in a happy place, Luke replied: “No I don’t think he’s ever happy! The premise rests on the fact he’s always afflicted.”

He added: “I think he does love Faye, but there’s a dark, subconscious layer which involves Jac (Rosie Marcel) and that will forever haunt him.

“I think there’s a part of him that relishes the fight with her, they’re locking in this eternal struggle that will never go away.”
