Hollyoaks: Claire Cooper (Jacqui McQueen) films her last scenes and thanks cast!

by Anna Howell

After filming her final scene as Jacqui McQueen, Hollyoaks actress, Claire Cooper, paid tribute to the cast of the award-winning Channel 4 soap, thanking cast and crew for making her time there so memorable.

We reported earlier this month that Claire, who has played feisty Jacqui McQueen in the hit soap since 2006, had decided to leave her role shortly after her off-screen partner, co-star Emmett J Scanlan (Brendan Brady) filmed his final scenes on the show too.

Emmett, who is the star of the award-winning film Charlie Casanova, revealed his decision to leave the soap last month after playing the double hard, double B moustached monster that is Brendan Brady for the past two and a half years, to return to LA to work on other projects, and it would seem that Claire, who has been seeing the Irish actor since last year, is off to join him.

Claire, whose character has been at the centre of some of the soaps most hard-hitting storylines including rape, kidnap and, most recently, the epic Enjoy The Ride wedding day bus crash, took to social networking site Twitter after her last day on set to thank cast, before hinting that she was at the airport en route to join her man.

After filming ended on her last day, Feb 26th, Claire took to the site to thank cast, in particular new executive producer Bryan Kirkwood who she thanked for creating her character nearly 7 years ago, tweeting:

“So.. I arrived home with my last jacqui Outfit.. Rings, hoops & boots lay on my floor….the Formidable lady Jacqui McQueen rests….

“Thank you to my dear @Hollyoaks @C4Insider family …You guys are incredible people, I’ve had a life changing 6yrs & the cast, crew & every dept…have made it so very special…. Always a place in my heart #unforgettable #hollyoaks.

“My dearest Bryan Kirkwood… Thank you… Thank you …You are incredible … thank you for creating Miss J McQueen @Hollyoaks .. Coops xx”

She then followed these tweets with this one posted yesterday, suggesting she was at an airport:

‘ Just been frisked….no corner of my body was left untouched….cheeky …I must be still in Jacqui mode… Bon voyage :)’
Claire revealed at the time she announced her decision to leave that her reasons were to “explore other avenues and see what other stories I can tell”.

Bryan Kirkwood, who recently returned to Hollyoaks after a stint on EastEnders, said at the time of her announcement:

“I’m devastated to be losing Jacqui, but after six years of her wearing those thigh-high PVC boots, I respect Claire’s need to explore other roles. I wish her the best of luck – not that she’ll need it.”

Jacqui’s final scenes will air in April in what has been described as “a dramatic effort to bring her family back together”, meanwhile Emmett, who filmed his final scenes earlier this month, will bow out as Brendan Brady on screen next month.
