The dust may have settled following the tragic wedding day bus crash that claimed the lives of four Hollyoaks regulars during the epic Enjoy The Ride storyline last month, but according to Claire Cooper, who plays Jacqui McQueen in the hit channel 4 soap, the drama is far from over, especially for Cindy Cunningham!
Fans of the award-winning soap will know how, prior to his death during the crash, Rhys Ashworth (Andy Moss) had been having an affair with Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring) and was planning on leaving his wife, Jacqui (Claire Cooper) after the wedding at the request of both Jacqui’s mum, Myra (Nicole Barber-Lane) and Cindy’s husband, Tony (Nick Pickard).
And, how just before the mini bus carrying the sixth forms ploughed through her wedding, Cindy had agreed to run away with him, but unfortunately for them the bus came and cut short their dreams.
And it wasn’t just the bus that left devastation and destruction, as when Jacqui, who had held her husband in her arms while he died, returned home she discovered Rhys’ plans, and affair, and her already broken heat shattered all over again.
Ever since the crash people have been trying their best to move, even Tony and Cindy, but like a dog with a bone, Jacqui has embarked on a tireless mission of self-destruction to find out who it was who had been having an affair with Rhys, and according to Claire Cooper who plays the unlucky McQueen, when she does find out at Christmas, Cindy won’t know what hit her!
Jacqui has already accused Cindy once of being the other woman, but after being talked down by Tony (who knows that she actually was) accepted that she was wrong. However, her suspicions arise again next week as the pair team up to arrange Rhys’ funeral.
Cooper told All About Soap magazine: “When she’s at the florist picking flowers for the funeral, Cindy goes into this weird speech about the significance of a single red rose and why it’s so important.
“And then at the grave, Jacqui’s pouring her heart out to Rhys when she comes across a single red rose. It suddenly dawns on her who Rhys’s other woman was.”
However, it seems that Cindy has a lucky escape as a ‘surprising development’, which is being kept under wraps, makes Jacqui re-aim her focus and accusations.
Cooper continued: “There’s a lot of screaming and shouting, but just as Cindy’s about to respond, something distracts Jacqui and changes things completely. Cindy won’t get away with it, but the resolution won’t happen until Christmas. I promise it’s going to be worth waiting for.”
Speaking about this year’s Christmas storylines, she continued: “Christmas is going to be great. Jacqui will discover Cindy’s affair with Rhys for real and all hell will break loose. I’m also excited we’ve got John Paul and Nana McQueen back. It will be nice to have some good McQueen laughs after everything Jacqui’s been through!”
