Hollyoaks: Emmett J. Scanlan (Brendan Brady) says Hollyoaks comes before Hollywood!

After last night’s breath-taking premier of Hollyoaks Later, it is not hard to see how lead star, Emmett J Scanlan, is being tipped as the next big thing on the big screen, as well as his current platform.

Scanlan, who plays Brendan Brady in the hit Channel 4 soap, Hollyoaks, has just seen his new film, Charlie Casanova take home the lion’s share of trophies, including best film and best actor for his lead, title role, at the 2011 European Independent Film Festival, but despite this, he has said that he will not pursue what is looking to be a very lucrative film career until he feels his character has finished with Hollyoaks!

Speaking to BBC’s Newsbeat, the Irish actor, who has been in Hollyoaks since 2010m said of the film, in which he plays a property tycoon wanted for murder:

“It’s one of the few movies I’m proud off,

“People either loved the movie or hated it. And when they hated it they lied down in traffic to let you know about it.”

“When I leave this earth I want a box set that I can be proud of. Right now I’ve got one movie in the box set.”

He went on to say that whilst he has no intention of leaving Hollyoaks yet, a leap into film is certainly on the cards:

“This is why I am an actor. I get to live other people’s lives and I get to live inside my imagination and call it a job.”

However, his main focus is still on Brendan Brady, his character which in his own words he says has “unfinished business”.

“My loyalty lies with Hollyoaks at the moment. I’ve got so much love and respect for it and the character, Brendan Brady.

“I want to see it out till the end. And I want to see how Brendan goes, hopefully it’s with a bang.”

On his current Hollyoaks Later storyline, he added:

“There’s different levels though that come with the later show.”

“The 6.30 show you have to leave it up to the audience’s imagination because you can’t get away with much, so it’s all about suggestion.

“With Later, it’s borderline gratuitous. There’s the violence, the sex scene. Everything is magnified.

“So for a character like Brendan and an actor like myself you know you get to marinate in that stuff.”

Hollyoaks Later can be seen every night this week at 10pm on E4, watch the extended promo for it in the clip below (warning, contains images of an adult nature)
