Hollyoaks: It’s the end of an era as Emmett J. Scanlan films final scenes as Brendan Brady, and shaves off his tash!
It is the moment that all Hollyoaks fans have been dreading, Emmett J. Scanlan has filmed his final scenes as the double hard, double B moustached monster that is Brendan Brady – and to show us he means it, he has shaved off his iconic tash!
We reported last month that Brendan Brady was to leave the award-winning Channel 4 soap after the actor who plays him, Emmett J. Scanlan confirmed to us at Unreality TV that he was bowing out of the show.
Speaking to us exclusively at the time, Scanlan said:
“To the greatest fans I could ever wish for. The time has come for me to sign out of #Hollyoaks to bow out as Double B aka Brendan motherf***ing Brady.
“It has been the greatest honour to share the stage with you & I could think of no better company to spend my evenings with.
“Thank you for your love and loyalty, and please, let’s dance again another time, another role… To the channel and Lime pictures thank you. A success built on surrounding myself with people who are better than me in every department, thank you.”
Emmett, whose final scenes will be shown in March this year, had hinted to us when we met him last year ahead of the amazing autumn series of Hollyoaks Later that the end may have been in sight for Brendan Brady, and at the time of the announcement told us his reasons for leaving the show he loves so dearly:
“I didn’t want to fall into old patterns.
“There is a fear that by staying to long you end up repeating storylines. It’s very hard to maintain the high stakes and constant twists and turns for Brendan Brady but I think production have done that brilliantly.
“It wouldn’t be fair on me or the fans to take the foot off the pedal… This was the evolutionary next step. And I hope they like it… I’m gonna miss this place sorely”
And now the end has come as Emmett, who first appeared in Hollyoaks back in October 2010, has filmed his final scenes for the soap.
Arguably the most loved villain in TV history, Brendan Brady has been at the centre of some of the shows biggest, and most controversial storylines in its history. Most notable was the revelation that Brendan, despite having had a wife and kids, was gay but whilst trying to come to terms with his sexuality turned against the love of his life, Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) in a disturbing display of domestic violence.
And now, as promised by the Irish TV and movie star, his final storyline, his exit – which has been confirmed to include the exit of his on-screen sister Cheryl (Bronagh Waugh), will be the most explosive one of them all.
We still have a month or so left of Brendan Brady on our Hollyoaks screens as these scenes are not due to air on our screens till March, but now that the ride is over for Emmett he marked the occasion by shaving off his character’s infamous trade-mark tash on set after the cameras stopped rolling in a ceremonious way to mark this sad occasion in the word of soaps.
Scanlan had already told Unreality TV that he planned to change his appearance after his time at Hollyoaks in an exclusive interview coming to you very soon, commenting: “The tash is Brendan Brady. So when I do another character, I will have a different look.”
So it didn’t come as much surprise to us when he took to social networking site, Twitter, to post a picture of his post-tash self, along with the following captions:
“Last day in #Hollyoaks but I dont want to make a big deal out of it,so again..Lets keep this between us,yeah?”
“I started my #Hollyoaks career with @bronaghwaugh it’s only fitting I end it with her #LastScene. Thank you to the stunning @bronaghwaugh memories soon forgotten once I start drinking again…
“To the amazing cast and crew photos of you all wearing tashes,& personal messages universally calling me a ‘c***’, I am so truly humbled. And to you guys for following, thank you from the bottom of my shrivelled black heart.. Hope yis enjoy the upcoming storyline.”
We are truly gutted that Brendan will no longer be on our screens, but equally can’t wait to see just how big a bang he goes out with. How do you feel about Brendan’s exit, leave your thoughts and comments for Emmett below:
