In wake of the news that Hollyoaks legend, Emmett J. Scanlan, is leaving the award-winning Channel 4 soap, some of the current cast have expressed their sadness at his departure.
Emmett, who plays the double hard double B moustached monster that is Brendan Brady on the much loved soap, joined the cast of Hollyoaks back in 2010 as the dastardly older half-brother of Cheryl Brady (Bronagh Waugh).
Since joining the show he has been at the centre of many a controversial and cutting edge storyline, including drug dealing, murder and homosexual domestic abuse.
Now, after two and a half years of playing Britain’s best loved villain, Emmett, who has just recently enjoyed Hollywood success playing the title role of the hit thriller, Charlie Casanova, has decided to bow out of the village for good.
Whilst there is much anticipation over just how his character will go, James Atherton, who plays Will Savage in Hollyoaks, has revealed that Emmett will be sorely missed by him and the rest of the cast.
Speaking to PA, Atherton said: “Emmett’s a brilliant actor and he’s been great to have on the show. I share a dressing room with him and he’s brilliant craic as well.
“I think the cast will miss him, absolutely, he’s such a huge character. It’ll be great at the same time. Him leaving will allow other storylines to come through, other families and that kind of thing.”
Atherton, whose own character viewers have seen turning to a darker side after throwing himself down some stairs last week and framing Texas Longford (Bianca Hendrickse-Spendlove) for after announcing to her boyfriend, his brother Dodger (Danny Mac) that they had slept together behind his back, continued:
“The Savages I think will have quite a lot to do. The show will still be as strong but he will be hugely missed, without a doubt.”
Emmett’s last scenes are due to air in March 2013.
Hollyoaks can be seen weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4/ Channel 4 HD.
