Hollyoaks Spoilers:Jennifer Metcalfe says of current kidnap plot: “Mercedes fears for her life”
As we have previously reported, Mercedes McQueen and fiancé Paul Browning are to find themselves in serious danger in Hollyoaks later this month, when Clare DeVine ups her game!
Fans of the hit Channel 4 soap will know how Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) had been in cahoots with con-woman Clare DeVine (Gemma Bissix) as they staged her kidnapping to extort money from her fiancé, Dr Browning (Joseph Thompson).
However things took a sinister turn when, after hearing a desperate voicemail from Paul, Mercedes decided that she wanted out of the game and tried to leave the hotel that she had been willingly staying in with Clare, causing Clare’s dark side to be revealed when, in an attempt to stop her from leaving, she hit Mercy over the head before chaining her to the sink, making the kidnap seriously real all of a sudden.
Meanwhile, Dr Browning had cottoned on to Clare’s involvement in Mercy’s disappearance and raced over to the hotel, where he found Clare, but no Mercedes, and, after a showdown, attempted to strangle her.
Now, Whilst the rest of the McQueen’s attempts apparently fail to raise the cash to have Mercedes released, Dr Browning comes up with a plan later this month to raise the funds himself.
Finally getting all the cash together, he leaves the bag filled with the cash in a gym bag at Atwells, as instructed to do so by Clare, but unfortunately for him the bag is picked up by Leanne Holiday (Jessica Forrest) by mistake.
Clare is furious when she goes to recover the money and finds a bag filled with sweaty clothes, so in an attempt to seek revenge locks Mercedes and Dr Browning in a cage together, threatening them with rabid dogs.
And now Jennifer Metclafe, the actress who plays Mercedes, has revealed how scared her character is at the hands of Clare!
Discussing the storyline to Digital Spy, Metcalfe explained:
“It was great news to see that Clare would be coming back. Mercedes is a proper bitch, and it’s quite nice to bring one of the old-school bitches back to challenge her.
“It’s been great working with Gemma again, too. It’s been four years but nothing has changed. We have a real laugh on set and produce some really good stuff together.”
On the subject of why Mercedes decided to join forces with Clare in the first place, Metcalfe continued:
“I think it was just desperation. Mercedes just wanted to get back at Doctor Browning. She saw an opportunity to do that and wouldn’t let it pass.”
However, Mercy soon changes her mind when Clare turns…
“It’s the last thing she wanted! But at the same time, there’s still a part of Mercedes that wants to pay Doctor Browning back for playing games with her in Las Vegas. As bad as it is, I think she’s slightly enjoying the fact that she’s making him feel the pain. But in the long run, she does want to work things out with Doctor Browning.”
” Mercedes knows that Clare is an absolute oddball and a loose cannon. Anything can happen when she’s around!”
Hollyoaks is due to air these scenes on Tuesday, April 23 at 6.30pm on Channel 4 / Channel 4 HD.
