In the wake of her on-screen brother, Emmett J Scanlan’s announcement that he is leaving Hollyoaks, Bronagh Waugh has revealed that she too will be bowing out of the hit Channel 4 soap!
Bronagh, who plays feisty Cheryl Brady in the award-winning show, has announced that her character will be joining her brother, Brendan Brady, when he leaves the show next month.
Emmett, who announced his decision to leave to Unreality TV last month, has confirmed that the exit of Brendan Brady will be as epic, and memorable as his character has been for the last two and a half years, so now that it is a double exit we, whilst we are devastated that Bronagh is leaving, can’t wait to see what happens!
Bosses at Hollyoaks are still remaining tight-lipped about the details of Cheryl’s exit, but with both of them leaving at the same time it does almost rule out death, almost.
Bronagh, who joined the cast of Hollyoaks four years ago, told Digital Spy:
“Deciding to leave Hollyoaks was tough – I have had the most incredible four years on the show and the cast and crew really are like my family – but it just feels like the right time for me and for Cheryl.
“I am so proud to have had the opportunity to be a part of some of the most hard-hitting and heart-warming storylines. I would like to thank everyone at Lime Pictures, especially the crew, who are some of the most talented and creative individuals that I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with.
“I am indebted to the support that the Hollyoaks fans have given me, and to Cheryl and the Brady family.”
Cheryl Brady first came on to our screens during the annual Hollyoaks late night series, Hollyoaks Later, back in 2008 with Karen Hassan who played Lynsey Nolan. Her character was introduced into the main show the following year and has formed a solid place in the hearts of all Hollyoaks fans ever since.
As the younger, more compassionate sister of the double B moustached monster that is Brendan Brady, Cheryl has found herself involved in some of the shows deepest and darkest storyline. As a pinnacle part of last year’s Hollyoaks Later fans saw Cheryl finally find some happiness in the arms of a Horse and Cart rider called Nate. The happiness was to be short lived but it was announced last month that Nate will be returning to Hollyoaks, so we can live in hope that lovely Cheryl’s exit still may involve a sunset, despite bosses promising that the week of the exits will be ‘explosive’!
Hollyoaks’ executive producer Bryan Kirkwood commented: “Bronagh has brought an irrepressible, unique and beautiful flavour to Hollyoaks for the last four years and the much loved character of Cheryl will be hugely missed by everyone here.
“From a guest role in Hollyoaks Later, Cheryl quickly made her mark on the main 6.30pm show and created one of Hollyoaks’ greatest characters. We wish her the very best for the future.”
