The battle of the alpha-females in Hollyoaks is set to reach a stale mate in tonight’s episode as Cindy Cunningham finds a way of stopping Mercedes McQueen from cashing in on her dead husbands insurance at the eleventh hour!
Fans of the award-winning Channel 4 soap will know how, after murdering Browning together Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) and Cindy (Stephanie Waring) then set about staging his death to looking like an accident after discovering that he had an insurance policy worth half a million pounds.
Mercedes originally agreed to cut Cindy in on the cash, but then Cindy realised that, as she was carrying Browning’s baby, she was owed at least half.
Of course Mercy was not about to roll over on this and declared that now she would give Cindy nothing, leaving Cindy seething, and desperate to find a way to get her hands on what she believes is hers by rights.
Then after Mercedes met with her solicitor to sign on the dotted line, Cindy gate-crashed the meeting and declared her pregnancy, but unfortunately for her without DNA proof, which cannot be collected until the baby is born, she has no claim, meaning that Mercedes would be the sole beneficiary.
This causes even more tension between the two who end up in a cat fight in the middle of the village in tonight’s episode, stopped by Trevor Royle (Greg Wood) who looks very interested when he hears why they have been fighting.
However, Cindy’s daughter Holly (Amanda Clapham) sees a golden opportunity when Mercy’s sister Carmel (Gemma Merna) leaves her front door keys on the Price Slice counter, and breaks in to steal a photo album of Mercy and Browning, which she fixes to look like her mum and Browning were in fact a couple.
Cindy then crashes in to the solicitors just as mercy is about to receive the cheque and shows the solicitor the photos, which he says still doesn’t prove that the child is the dead doctor’s.
However, it does prove reasonable doubt, according to Cindy’s solicitor who she paid a visit to first, and who issued a court order to stop any payment being made until the baby has been born!
