It should have been a happy ever after for Tony and Diane in Hollyoaks following the birth of their twins and Tony’s recovery from cancer – But alas this wasn’t the case, and it isn’t about to get any better!
Fans of the hit Channel 4 soap will know how Tony (Nick Pickard) decided to turn his hand to drug smuggling after his testicular cancer diagnosis last year in order to raise some cash for his, then, unborn children should the disease beat him.
Luckily he was given the all-clear on the same day that his baby boy, Anthony, and baby girl, Dee Dee were born, meaning that life should have been good for him and Diane O’Connor (Alex Fletcher) from then on.
Of course one thing he didn’t take into consideration was the fact that once you become a business associate of local gangster Trevor Royle (Greg Wood) there isn’t any easy way to quit, as Trev made pretty clear by continuing to force Tony to do more illegal runs for him.
When Diane found out about Tony’s involvement with the village lowlife earlier this year she was, understandably, furious and promptly called off their wedding,
Since then Tony has been sleeping on the sofa in the dog house, but next week fans will see the two decide to put the past behind them and get married after all.
Unfortunately things really don’t go too well though….
Fans will know how Tony’s business partner Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) has also been caught up with Trevor, to keep the heat off Tony, by moving drugs concealed inside bottles of wine for him.
When Tony takes one of the bottles home before the wedding he is shocked to find the drugs, and confronts Ste about it before panicking and hiding the drugs in the flat.
Unfortunately for him Sinead (Stephanie Davis) hears the entire conversation and, in a bid to get back at Diane for all their recent fallings out, tips off the police, causing the flat to be raided on the morning of the wedding, whilst Diane looks on in horror in her wedding dress!
Discussing the new storyline with All About Soap, Alex Fletcher who plays Diane, admitted that this situation would be hard for Diane and Tony to come back from, explaining:
“[Diane is] gutted. She had no idea about the drugs, and I think her first reaction will be to blame Tony for getting sucked back into Trevor’s dodgy deals. This latest fiasco will land Tony and Diane in a worse situation than before.”
Watch all the drama unfold in Hollyoaks on Thursday, March 27 at 6.30pm on Channel 4 / Channel 4 HD.
