We all knew that Brendan Brady’s happiness could never be long lived in Hollyoaks, but what we didn’t expect was his downfall to have all been constructed by an outside force!
Fans of the hit Channel 4 soap will know how, since returning from Dublin openly gay, Brendan (Emmett J Scanlan) has been embroiled in domestic bliss, finally reunited with the one true love of his life, Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson).
However, no sooner had they returned Brendan’s father Seamus (Fintan McKeown) arrived in the village transforming Brendan into the vulnerable little boy that was sexually abused by his monstrous father 20 years ago.
Despite this chilling distraction, however, viewers have watched Brendan keep a stiff upper lip and continue with his life, even making time to get to know and form bonds with his new stepchildren.
The Doug came back….
Doug (PJ Brennan) was last seen on our screens heading for a new life in America after setting his new husband, Ste, free to follow his heart and be with Brendan. His arrival, despite him insisting that he was over everything and ready to move on, certainly made Brendan seem very uncomfortable, especially when Ste agreed to work alongside his estranged husband again and let him spend time with the kids.
Still, Brendan kept his head held high, refusing to let anything spoil the happiness he has finally found. However, as fans last night would have seen, after finally opening up to Mitzeee (Rachel Shenton) about what his father had done to him as a child, she convinces him to go and tell Ste what he had told her.
Brendan does just that but, when preparing to confess all he over hears Ste telling his daughter to tell her mum, Amy (Ashley Slanina-Davies), that he was still living with Doug and not to mention Brendan, he finally snaps.
Now, as we reported a few weeks ago, Amy – who fans last saw heading for a new life in Manchester before Christmas, is due to make a brief return to Hollyoaks, but her motives are more than questionable!
One person who plays a major role in this storyline is Kevin! Kevin, as we reported last year, is to join the cast as a new bar man at Chez Chez, and whilst his presence goes suitably unnoticed amongst the main characters around him, his influence in pinnacle to the outcome of all their lives!
Amy arrives back in the village on Tuesday, February 12, much to Brendan and Ste’s surprise.
Understandably she does not appreciate being lied to about Ste’s new relationship, and naturally worries about having Brendan, who she witnessed beating Ste regularly the first time they were together, being around her children.
Her concerns don’t just stop there though as, whilst trying to leave with the kids, she catches a glimpse of Ste’s own violent side when he grabs her arm to try and stop her, causing her to declare he will never see her, or the kids again.
But, what neither Ste or Brendan realise is that it was Kevin, who is secretly taking orders from Walker (Neil Newbon) who contacted Amy and got her to return to stir up trouble, but it is only a matter of time before the seemingly invisible barman takes further steps to destroy Brendan’s life when he plants drugs in the nightclub he works in, but will Brendan work out what’s going on in time to stop the trouble?
However, whilst Walker’s attention is taken up completely with his game of cat and mouse with Brendan, he takes his eye off his own ball for a moment, allowing someone else to plot their own revenge on him!
Fans of the show will know how last week saw the return of Carl Costello to the village in a bid to try and get Mitzeee to move back to America with him. But what she doesn’t know is that her wellbeing isn’t the only thing on his agenda!
Hell-bent on getting justice for his son Riley, who was killed by a stray bullet in the violent showdown between Brendan and Walker, Carl decides to enlist the help of a hit man to finally rid the world of Walker but, when the plan fails, decides to take matters into his own hands and tracks down Walker in a hotel, armed with a knife.
The outcome of this storyline is not yet known but it is believed that Carl will be instrumental in the exit storyline for Mitzeee, who we reported last week will discover she is pregnant, during the week commencing Monday February 11th.
Hollyoaks can be seen week nights at 6.30pm on Channel 4/ Channel 4 HD.
