After much speculation and rumour, it has now been officially announced that former EastEnder, and recent Celebrity Big Brother contestant, Gillian Taylforth, is joining the cast of Hollyoaks!

Taylforth, who is best known for her long serving role as Kathy Mitchell (Beale) in the award-winning BBC soap, is set to play a mother of five sons who are moving to the village.

This news comes shortly after Taylforth, who played Kathy for 15 years before the character was killed off-screen in a car crash in South Africa back in 2001, recently admitted that show bosses at EastEnders were desperate to get her back in Walford!

“They were asking if I could think of any way Kathy could return even though she’s been killed off,” she said.

“Even one of the executive producers, John Yorke, told me that killing off Kathy was the biggest mistake they’ve ever made.”

Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that Hollyoaks, and EastEnders veteran, Gemma Bissix will be returning to Hollyoaks to reprise her role as super-vixen Clare Devine.

Bissix first left the soap in 2007 before briefly returning in 2009 when her character, Clare tried to get revenge on enemies Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) and Justin Burton (Chris Fountain), leading to her arrest.

Speaking of her last return at the time, Bissix commented:

“She’s back for revenge. Obviously Warren and Justin are involved but one minute she’s not there and the next minute she is – you don’t expect her to come back. She’s definitely a shadow of her former self — in the nicest possible way! She’s deranged and completely psychotic. She’s greasy-haired and looking like a trashy prostitute, but it’s absolutely fabulous! No holds barred as far as she’s concerned, and that’s what’s been great for me to play.

“Before you always had to hide Clare’s nastiness and act like she’s nice and normal, but this time everybody knows what she’s like so there’s no hiding the psychopath. That’s why I don’t think the audience will be disappointed — I think they’ll love it or hate it!”

More details about Bissix’s return, and Taylforth’s new Hollyoaks family will be revealed soon.
