We flipping knew it – Joe Roscoe is alive and well in Hollyoaks! Did you guess too?
Cast your minds back to the moment that Joe (played by Ayden Callaghan) was trapped inside the derelict council flats whilst they were being demolished, after he had been held hostage there by stepsister, Grace (Tamara Wall). Ok, you with us? Let’s continue!
Hollyoaks Spoilers: Ayden Callaghan says of Joe’s ‘death’: “The Roscoes will be torn apart”
Did we actually see a dead body?
The answer is no, because there wasn’t one, there was simply a hand emerging from the rubble which Fraser (Jesse Birdsall) found alone and relayed back to Freddie (Charlie Clapham) as being that of his dead brother.
Since then Freddie, and wife Sinead (Stephanie Davis) have been under instruction by Fraser to make it look like Joe simply waked out on fiancée Lindsey Butterfield (Sophie Austin).
Having already sent texts from Joe’s phone to Lindsey ending their relationship, and clearing out Joe’s bank account, the plan could have been going well, if it wasn’t for Lindsey!
Lindsey, who found out she was pregnant with Joe’s baby right after he ‘left’, would simply not accept that Joe had run out on her, despite the fact that she had told him about Browning’s murder just before.
So insistent was she that she enlisted the help of a private detective who uncovered the fact that it was Sinead who withdrew all the money from Joe’s bank, making the junior nurse even more suspicious and confused.
Nipping it in the bud, Fraser paid the detective a visit and paid him to tell Lindsey that he had spoken to Joe who was living with another woman now and did not want to be found.
Still, this wasn’t good enough for Lindsey and, believing that the detective was keeping something from her, storms down and breaks in to his office in tonight’s episode.
Freddie finds her, and sees the cheque that Fraser has paid the detective off with pinned on the noticeboard, and whilst trying to cover it with his body has to think quickly on his feet to make Lindsey leave well alone.
In the end Freddie blurts out that he has spoken to Joe, that Joe has been seeing this woman for the last six months and left when he did as she had gotten pregnant.
Devastated, Lindsey leaves and heads straight down to the family planning clinic where she takes the drugs to abort her unborn child.
Meanwhile, Sandy (Gillian Taylforth) convinces Grace to spend an afternoon with her in the pub where, after hearing how upset she is about Joe, Grace starts to show a human side, and even looks guilty for once.
Making her excuses she heads over to see Fraser, explaining how she can’t play this game with the Roscoe family anymore, which he responds to by taking her down to a hospital (we imagine not the same one where Lindsey and Sandy work) and shows her a very much unconscious, but ALIVE, Joe lying in bed wired up to machines.
But the question remains why?
Obviously Fraser does not want Sandy to find out what really happened to Joe, and we suppose we can see the logic in letting them believe he is AWOL rather than fighting for his life, but still why would he tell Freddie that he was dead?
The answer, we believe, is because until Joe wakes up Fraser can’t be sure of what he will tell people, and of course what happened implicates all of them, in particular Grace, so maybe the plan is to wait and see what he says when he does wake up to decide if the tale he has told Freddie has to become a reality?
We shall have to wait and see, but in the meant time WE TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!
