So last night’s Hollyoaks had us all on the edge of our seats as Cindy, Lindsey and Mercedes all admitted to Sam Lomax their part in the Browning murder – But what happens next?
Fans of the hit Channel 4 soap will know how, during the epic home-made bomb explosion last October to celebrate the shows 18th birthday, Browning managed to break free from prison, and soon headed back to the village to get wife Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe).
Shoving her into a car and driving her back to the McQueen residents to pack her stuff, Mercy couldn’t help herself as she gave the evil doctor chapter and verse about how much she despised him.
This didn’t go down well and convicted murderer Browning decided to make Mercy his next victim but, luckily for her, her kidnapping had been witnessed by Cindy (Stephanie Waring) and Lindsey (Sophie Austin) who, having both been attacked by Browning too, ran to her rescue, and knocked him off her with a shovel.
The blow wasn’t fatal, but the one that Mercedes delivered a little later was, so the girls then decided the best thing to do was to get rid of the body.
After weeks of failed attempts to dispose of the good Dr, the girls finally enlisted the help of Freddie (Charlie Clapham) who orchestrated it to look like Browning’s car fell off a cliff, killing him in the process.
The story worked for the police, who quickly closed the case, but ever since Browning’s son Alex (Ojan Genc) has been on the scene they have been forced to re-open it, and even pulled in poor old Dirk Savage (David Kennedy) for questioning.
Dirk thought he was helping by confessing to the murder, but it just made the police even more suspicious of Cindy who, not wanting three lives to be ruined, made her way to the police station to hand herself in.
Lindsey and Mercedes found out what she was planning and bit the bullet and stood by her side confessing to Sam Lomax (Lizzie Roper) that they killed him too and that all three of them would have to be arrested.
In tonight’s episode Sam takes each women in for questioning and listens intently as each tell the story of how the murder happened, and what had lead up to it (leaving out the bit where Mercy hit him again, we imagine).
After taking all the evidence, and having had it pointed out that if the police had kept a better hold of him then they wouldn’t have ever needed to defend themselves against him, Sam makes a shocking decision.
Instructing all three to follow her into the Folly, Sam tells them that she will destroy their confessions and close the case for good, leaving them free to return to their lives.
Stunned, the women head back and Cindy’s delight that she won’t have to leave her children finally starts to sink in – That is until she gets home and discovers her daughter Holly (Amanda Clapham) reading the letter she wrote before heading off to the police station, confessing all!
What will Holly do?
