Hollyoaks Spoilers: Dr Browning (Joseph Thompson) and Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metacafe) in grave danger!

by Anna Howell

Mercedes McQueen and fiancé Paul Browning are to find themselves in serious danger in Hollyoaks later this month, when Clare DeVine ups her game!

Fans of the hit Channel 4 soap will know how Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) had been in cahoots with con-woman Clare DeVine (Gemma Bissix) as they staged her kidnapping to extort money from her fiancé, Dr Browning (Joseph Thompson).

However, as viewers will see in tonight’s episode, things take a sinister turn when, after hearing a desperate voicemail from Paul, Mercedes decides she wants out of the game and tries to leave the hotel that she has been willingly staying in with Clare.

Unfortunately for her, the extent of Clare’s dark side is soon revealed when, in an attempt to stop her from leaving, she hits Mercy over the head before chaining her to the sink, making the kidnap seriously real all of a sudden.

Meanwhile, Dr Browning has cottoned on to Clare’s involvement in Mercy’s disappearance and races over to the hotel. He finds Clare, but no Mercedes, and, after a showdown, attempts to strangle her.

The attack is interrupted by Jim McGinn but, later when Dr Browning receives a call from the kidnapper demanding £100,000, it seems that Clare is set on revenge as well as the money!

Whilst the rest of the McQueen’s attempts apparently fail to raise the cash to have Mercedes released, Dr Browning comes up with a plan later this month to raise the funds himself.

Finally getting all the cash together, he leaves the bag filled with the cash in a gym bag at Atwells, as instructed to do so by Clare, but unfortunately for him the bag is picked up by Leanne Holiday (Jessica Forrest) by mistake.

Clare is furious when she goes to recover the money and finds a bag filled with sweaty clothes, so in an attempt to seek revenge locks Mercedes and Dr Browning in a cage together, threatening them with rabid dogs.

Discussing the storyline with All About Soap, Jennifer Metcalfe who plays Mercedes, explained:

“Clare moves Mercy to a scrap yard and locks her up in this cage. I have no idea how Clare has the strength to overpower Mercedes. It’s one of those TV mysteries!

“She can’t escape, because savage dogs are surrounding the cage, and Clare warns they’ll attack her if she gets out. She’s stuck in this cage in the middle of nowhere, with no-one to hear her cries for help.”

“Browning meets up with Clare and she lures him into the cage and then whacks him with a heavy stone, leaving him with a nasty head wound. Clare’s obviously a very powerful woman!”

During their ordeal Mercedes and Paul realise how much they mean to each other, but with Paul’s life hanging in the balance following his head injury, it remains to be seen if either or both will make it out alive!

Metcalfe continued:

“I think they’re a match made in heaven, so they could go all the way – she might make it up the aisle this time! But they test each other so much; they could push one another away. It’s one extreme to the other with them.”

Hollyoaks is due to air these scenes on Tuesday, April 23 at 6.30pm on Channel 4 / Channel 4 HD.
