Things are far from easy for Nancy Osborne in Hollyoaks lately, and now facing the prospect of losing both her business and her home things are set to take a much more dramatic turn when the young journalist develops an addiction to painkillers.
Fans of the hit Channel 4 soap will know how Nancy (Jessica Fox) has had more than most to deal with in the last year – not only did she miscarry her first child with husband Darren (Ashley Taylor – Dawson) she then went on to have a premature birth resulting in her son Oscar being diagnosed as death.
Throughout this time the Osborne family had to deal with the heart-breaking realisation that Esther Bloom (Jazmine Franks) had been being bullied by her common-law sister Ruby (Anna Shaffer) to the point that she tried to commit suicide.
And then, just when it seemed that things couldn’t possibly get any worse, they learned that the pub they worked and lived in was to be sold out from underneath them, leaving them with nothing.
Then, in an attempt to find the cash to buy the pub themselves, Darren ended up managing to lose them their licence meaning that they may not be able to continue trading there, even if the money was found.
Nancy has always been the sensible one, many would say, but when the strain starts to get to her she becomes increasingly reliant on painkillers in order to cope with the family sized drama going on around her.
However, whilst no one so far has noticed her constant pill popping, things get intense for Nancy when Frankie decides to dispose of any medication in the house when Esther returns home from hospital. This results in Nancy becoming increasingly desperate in her new-found addiction causing her to steal Esther’s medication when she returns.
When Frankie discovers the pills missing she is heartbroken thinking that Esther is planning to take her own life again and angrily confronts her.
Nancy overhears the conversation between Frankie and Esther with regards the missing tablets but, rather than admitting the truth and handing over the tablets, she takes them quickly resulting in her falling into a deep sleep from which she can’t be woken.
Whilst the discovery of his zonked out wife confuses Darren, her habit still remains undetected. However, when, in scenes to be shown next week, Darren discovers Nancy desperately scouring the floor for pills from a split box, could he about to uncover the truth?
Watch all the drama unfold in Hollyoaks in the week commencing Monday, March 25 at 6:30 PM on Channel 4/channel 4 HD.
