It is the moment that all Hollyoaks fans have been waiting for, when Ruby Button is finally exposed as being the horrendous bully that drove poor Esther Bloom to try and end her own life!
Fans of the award-winning Channel 4 soap will know how, after Maddie Morrison (Scarlet Bowman) died during the epic Enjoy The Ride wedding day bus crash last year, the other two members of her coven, Sinead O’Connor (Stephanie Davis) and Ruby Button (Anna Schafer), took over the relentless harassment and bullying of Esther Bloom (Jazmine Franks).
After nearly a year of torment, desperate Esther finally decided enough was enough and last week viewers looked on in horror as the teenager took an overdose in a bid to end her suffering once and for all.
The suicide attempt was unsuccessful, but the concoction of pills and alcohol that Esther consumed has left her needing an urgent liver transplant, otherwise she will die.
Ruby and Sinead at first seemed completely unscathed by the results of their actions, but that is all set to change next month when Ruby, who lives with Esther as a sister figure, finally gets a pang of conscience and tries to put things right, with tragic consequences….
Fans will already know how some of the college students, including Phoebe (Mandip Gill), Tilly (Lucy Dixon) and George (Stephen Roberts) have turned their back on the gruesome twosome that is Sinead and Ruby, and are set on exposing them for the bullies they are.
But when Esther’s condition becomes critical next week, and with only 24 hours left to find a new liver, Esther calls upon Dylan to help her record a video message that she would like to be shown should she die, a video which John Paul (James Sutton) later discovers when Dylan is editing it.
Thankfully a donor is found, but whilst Esther is in surgery Ruby starts to feel guilty for what she and Sinead have done. Deciding the truth needs to be heard Ruby confesses all to her family, who are left shocked to their cores with what they are hearing.
She then heads over to the O’Connor’s to expose Sinead too, but is thrown out of the house before she has a chance to. John Paul then spots Ruby and tries to talk to her about Esther’s video, but she runs away. John Paul sets after her, but whilst the chase is on it takes a dramatic turn when Ruby ends up being knocked over by Jack Osborne (Jimmy McKenna) in his car.
An insider told the Daily Star newspaper: “Ruby’s all over the place. She wants to put things right but in her emotional state fails to see the car.”
It is unknown, at this stage, whether Ruby survives the accident, but whilst her life hangs in the balance things are looking just as bleak for her pregnant partner in crime, Sinead!
Having been left suspicious over Ruby’s outburst Dianne (Alex Fletcher) decides to search through her stepdaughter’s laptop, where she is mortified to find evidence linking Sinead to Esther’s torment.
However, as disgusted as Dianne is with Sinead, she knows that if this was to come out her job at the college would be in serious danger, especially now that the new headmaster, Dodger’s dad Patrick Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) has implied strict new anti-bullying policies.
Will Dianne do the right thing for Esther, or will she keep quiet for the sake of her job, her stepdaughter and the baby she is expecting?
