Whilst the country is still trying to work out if Joe Roscoe is really dead in Hollyoaks, there is one person in particular who will not give up until she knows the truth – His fiancée Lindsey Butterflied!
Fans of the hit Channel 4 soap will know how Joe (Aydan Callaghan) found himself held captive by step-sister Grace (Tamara Wall) in the derelict council flats just as they were about to demolished.
After a failed attempt to save Joe in time, Fraser (Jesse Birdsall) informed his brother Freddie (Charlie Clapham) that it was too late, Joe had died, leaving it to him and his new wife Sinead (Stephanie Davis) to cover up the murder and make the rest of the family believe Joe had just left Lindsey (Sophie Austin).
At first we were all a tad suspicious over the death seeing as we didn’t actually see a body, but as the days have passed, during which Joe has been removed from the opening titles, we have become more inclined to believe that Hollyoaks really did just kill off a main character without a single word of warning or explanation (it does happen – Remember Lynsey Nolan?).
But there is one person who is not giving up hope, and that is Joe’s fiancée Lindsey who doesn’t know he is meant to be dead, but according to Sophie Austin, the actress who plays her, she will not rest until she finds him!
Discussing her character’s heartbreak over the storyline so far, Austin explained to Inside Soap:
“I don’t think it enters Lindsey’s head that Joe could be dead.
“She does wonder if he has been kidnapped, as he had a dark past in London, so she thinks it may be to do with that. But she won’t rest until she has found him.”
When Lindsey starts to show signs of suspicion next week Freddie is forced to send her a text message from Joe’s phone telling her that it is over between them, on which Austin commented:
“She doesn’t truly believe what she reads – she wouldn’t believe something like that until she heard it from Joe’s mouth.”
“The text is tracked back to Chester, so she knows something isn’t right. Lindsey can’t believe Joe would leave her like this.
“She is so frustrated that she trashes the garage, which is such a big part of Joe’s life – it’s like she is lashing out at him.”
Hollyoaks can be seen weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4 / Channel 4 HD.
