There is a surprise in store for Diane O’Connor in Hollyoaks, when she discovers that she is pregnant by Tony Hutchinson, despite being told she can’t have kids!
Fans of the hit Channel 4 soap will know how Diane (Alex Fletcher) arrived in the village with her ex-husband and two step kids. Desperate to have a child of her own, Dianne tried IVF to no avail, and so settled for being a stepmother.
That was until her teenage stepdaughter, Sinead (Stephanie Davis) became pregnant by Rhys Ashworth, who died in the epic Enjoy The Ride wedding day bus crash, and offered to let Diane bring up the child as her own.
Diane was hesitant at first but eventually agreed to the adoption and could be seen happily shopping for her new little girl, when she wasn’t bed hopping with Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) that is, which leads us to the next part of this story.
Diane and Tony had been trying each other out as ‘friends with benefits’ until it became abundantly clear that Tony’s heart still belonged to Jacqui McQueen (Claire Cooper), so Diane set her new mate free.
However, their parting is set to get a whole lot more complicated when Diane discovers later this month that she is expecting the child she has always dreamed of having after one of her encounters with Tony, leaving a burning question – what about Sinead’s baby?
A show source told Digital Spy: “Diane knows that her fling with Tony wasn’t anything serious and his heart has always belonged to Jacqui McQueen.
“At first she’s reluctant to tell Tony about the baby, but she finally plucks up the courage to let him know that he’s going to be a father again.”
As for Tony, he is about to get his heart broken by Jacqui yet again when she reveals her big secret to him, and then, one way or another, leaves the village for good.
And as if that wasn’t enough, he also has to face being diagnosed with testicular cancer next month, meaning that this baby might well be the last chance for either of them to have kids, but will they end up doing it together?
The insider added:
“With Jacqui bowing out from the village soon, there may still be a chance of Tony and Diane becoming a proper couple, but viewers will have to wait and see how it pans out.”
“With a baby on the way and serious health problems to worry about, Tony is going to have a lot on his plate. There are interesting times ahead for him and Diane.”
Hollyoaks can be seen weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4/ Channel 4 HD.
