Hollyoaks have triumphed at this year’s All About Soaps Awards, bringing home more awards than any other mainstream soap!

The hit Channel 4 soap collected three trophies through public votes, one more than both EastEnders and Emmerdale who received two each, and Coronation Street who just took home one.

Amongst the winner was recently departed Emmett J Scanlan, who received the award for ‘Forbidden Lovers’ with his on-screen partner, Kieron Richardson.

This award comes days after Scanlan’s character, Brendan Brady, left the show in a blaze of honour and glory after being shot down police in one of the shows most dramatic weeks in history.

Speaking of the award, Scanlan commented:

“It’s just incredible. Out of all my awards, this was the one I was most confident about because I know how hard-core the Stendan fans are. It’s nice to have this trophy too, because this is the final chapter.

“Their bond was destructive at times, but in Steven, Brendan found true love. The feelings were so strong – Brendan even killed for him. They certainly weren’t your conventional couple, but who is?”

Richardson added: “If I could snog every single person who voted for us I would! We’re chuffed that people have taken Ste and Brendan into their hearts.”

The other two awards Hollyoaks received were for Best Stunt which was awarded for the epic Enjoy The Ride Wedding Day bus crash, and Best Storyline for the portrayal of Esther Bloom’s (Jazmine Franks) bullying plot.

Jazmine Franks, who plays Esther, commented: “We all worked so hard, so to get this recognition is great. I’m so grateful to everyone who voted, and it makes it even more special that the viewers are behind Esther.”

EastEnders took home the award in the Best Reveal category for the arrival of Max Branning’s (Jake Wood) secret wife, Kirsty (Kierston Wareing), of which Jake Wood said:

“We’re both absolutely over the moon – I’m thrilled for Kierston as it’s her first award. I’d known what Max’s secret was going to be for over a year, so I’m just pleased it’s out in the open now and I can relax!”

EastEnders also won the award for Best Baby Drama for the Lola and Lexi storyline.

Emmerdale took home the prestigious award for Best Episode for its hour-long live episode shown to mark its 40th anniversary last year as well as the award for Best Death for Carl King who was murdered during the live episode.

Coronation Street won the award for Best Wedding which went to Natalie Gumede and Alan Halsall who play Kirsty Soames and Tyrone Dobbs.

Speaking at the ceremony, All About Soap’s editor Johnathon Hughes told Digital Spy: “We had a phenomenal response to the All About Soap awards this year with a record-breaking number of votes. Soap fans love to have their say and it was a real mixed bag this year.

“Hollyoaks scored the most wins with prizes for the ever-popular Brendan Brady, who bowed out on screen this week, the much-talked-about cyber bullying storyline and the explosive wedding crash stunt.

“Emmerdale’s groundbreaking live episode and Carl’s shocking murder were big hits with the public, as was Corrie’s blockbuster wedding that saw Kirsty get her revenge on Tyrone, and EastEnders’ massive Christmas Day reveal that Max had a secret wife.

“Awards voted for by the public are the most important ones to the soaps, as it shows what the audience is responding to. There are more drama, tears and explosions than ever in 2013!”
