Hollyoaks actress, Stephanie Waring, has come out to defend Wallis day being recast as her onscreen daughter, Holly!
Fans of the award-winning Channel 4 soap will know how Holly, who used to be played by Lydia Waters between 2008 and 2010, before the character was shipped off to a boarding school in Switzerland, reappeared in the Village for her mother’s , Cindy Cunningham, wedding to Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard).
It was certainly a wedding none of us will forget in a while, as sixth former, Maddie Morrison (Scarlet Bowman) ploughed a minibus through the ceremony, killing so far at least 4 people.
However, after we reported that Holly would be making a return to Hollyoaks, in the form of model Wallis Day, Stephanie Waring, who plays her onscreen mum, Cindy, instantly came out to say how much she loved working with Wallis, and how beautiful she was (it was what really gave it away that Cindy survived the crash to be honest!), but it seems that not everyone is so impressed with the new casting decision.
After her debut performance on Wednesday night, fans took to social networking site, Twitter, to complain about the realism in 18 year old Wallis playing the 14 year old tearaway daughter.
Responding to the criticism, Waring took to the site herself to declare: “For everyone commenting on the new Holly so what if she looks older than 15! A lot of 15 yr olds look like adults these days!
“If they wanted someone that looked like the old holly they would have cast the old holly!”
She then went on to praise the characters makeover, as well as the hugely talented Day for portraying her, tweeting: “Wallis Day should be congratulated on landing the role not defending how she looks! She is stunning, great actress and a great addition!”
One viewer tweeted how Holly had “aged a bit”, to which Waring hit back at by saying: “Not really, the actress playing her is only 3 years older as was I when I was 18 and played Cindy at 15.”
It certainly seems like the village may have a new mother-daughter A team to contend with, and if reports are to be believed, Wallis is set to have her work cut out for her playing the feisty schoolgirl, who is certainly cut from the same cloth as her mother!
Meanwhile, the epic Enjoy The Ride storyline concludes tonight on Hollyoaks at 6.30pm on Channel 4, watch the behind the scenes action from the stunts and Maddie’s death in the clip below:
