We are quite jealous of Dawn French already but by the time we see her on Comic Relief tomorrow night, we’re pretty sure that we’ll never want to see the comedienne on our screens ever again.
Much as we loved the buxom funny woman, it hardly seems fair that she’s already got to snog Johnny Depp, Hugh Grant and George Clooney is ready to add yet another Hollywood star to her list, while we can’t even get within touching distance.
Dawn is set to reprise her role in hit sitcom The Vicar Of Dibley for the first time in five years on tomorrow’s Red Nose Day special and during the episode, we will be greeted by the sight of none other than Homeland star Damian Lewis complete with his very own Vicar’s dog collar!
French will play an infatuated Geraldine Granger for the the ten minute sketch, which will see her and parishioners Hugo Horton (James Fleet) and Owen Newitt (Roger Lloyd-Pack) travelling down to London on a special mission.
Once they arrive in the big smoke, they will cross paths with a charming man of the cloth — played by Lewis — who will get up close and personal to a very besotted Geraldine.
Dawn told The Sun that she loved being reunited with her old pals from the show and laughed:
“It’s the first time we’ve been together for ages, so everyone can witness the rapid deterioration of us all.
“Since we last saw the vicar and her parish members, the astonishing and shocking amount of decay is alarming.
“I don’t want to give too much away about the sketch, but the vicar heads up the fight for equality in church law.”
Damian Lewis says that fans will enjoy the sketch greatly and promised much hilarity as he added:
“Richard Curtis has done a brilliant thing in getting all the cast back together.
“It’s very funny and anyone who loves the show is just going to have a riot with this.”
Dawn’s last appearance on The Vicar of Dibley was with Sting and Trudie Styler in a special mini episode made for Comic Relief in 2007.
She has a long running association with Red Nose Day, in fact she was involved with it’s inception back in 1986, and some of her past appearances have included a special version of Little Britain Live in which she played the part of a lesbian barmaid in a sketch with Daffyd Thomas. She has also performed in a Spice Girls parody, kissed Johnny Depp in another Vicar Of Dibley sketch and played Harry Potter in ‘Harry Potter and the Secret Chamberpot of Azerbajian.’
