Hunted: Creator Frank Spotnitz reveals details of second series

Hunted creator Frank Spotnitz has revealed a second series of the show will go ahead even if it does not have support from the BBC.

The broadcaster has reportedly axed the spy drama but its U.S. co-producer Cinemax insists it will produce another season itself.

Frank told Digital Spy: “This is the hazard of doing co-productions – it makes it complicated sometimes if you lose one of your partners.

“But we’re going forward – it’s sort of a spin off of itself and it will focus more squarely on the character of Sam Hunter. Hopefully it’ll be on around this time next year.”

He added that he still expects the show to air in the U.K. and may consider Sky as a possible partner.

Frank said: “I’m pretty confident that British viewers will get to see Sam Hunter as she continues.”

The original plans for the second series, which would have seen protagonist Sam, played by Melissa George, travel to Berlin in Germany, have been abandoned in a bid to shake up the show.

He said: “It’s going to change – that [Berlin plot] was when we still had the BBC as a partner. Now it’s one of those funny things where it’s the same character, but it’s a different series.

“As it happens, from the way episode eight [of series one] ends, it actually makes it quite organic to launch off into a different series, but it’s not the direction we would’ve gone in had we stayed with the BBC.”

Hunted is available on DVD and Blu-ray from November 26.

I really loved the show and can’t believe the beeb have axed it. The BBC is all about original drama and after doing away with Spooks, this fit the bill perfectly. Hopefully we’ll see Sam Hunter again!

  2. Victoria says:

I absolutly loved the show – all be it a little cheesy – But i would really like all my questions answered!
I agree with Anna, please bring back Sam hunter!

  3. Lexietta says:

I am shocked that the BBC have dropped this show. As the comment above states it was a good follow up to Spooks and surely the BBC realises that it was also as good as the shows coming out of Scandinavia? It was one of the best series for some time…since Spooks, The Silence and State of PLay. In all the period drama stuff that is constantly about it was an antidote.

  4. Julie says:

I have really enjoyed having something different to watch each week and would like the bbc to have more drama like this. I will be very disappointed not to see this back on tv again. Sam hunter and other cast were really brilliant to watch. Hope we get to see the next one.

  5. Murielle says:

I want to know who these hands belong to. I want to know what information that key will give sam. Why is it that everything is levelled down on tv nowadays? People are saying that they are fed up with crap but they are too lazy to watch something different. Bring sam back :-)

  6. Lyndsay says:

i loved this show, me and my Partner were shocked that the beeb canceled the show, it was something different and original, let’s hope that a second series will be on some other channel. :-)

  7. Fiona says:

Best show on TV in a long time. Really looked forward to it every week. Hope it comes back as promised. The BBC bailed too quickly on this one!

  8. Becky says:

My husband and l really enjoyed this and looked forward to it every week. It was so refreshing not to be able to guess/work out the plot. I’m really surprised the BBC aren’t going forward with it, big mistake.
I really hope they don’t join with Skty as we only have freeview.

  9. Terry says:

When this programme first started I thought, ‘Wow’ but it was let down by the writing. Sam gets shot, drowned and has a baby….Pardon! Try Disney not the BBC.

  10. jason says:

The worst fight choreography I’ve seen since The Saint.

  11. Joy says:

Really hope they bring it back but please don’t put it on Sky! Believe it or not, not everyone has it! We certainly don’t.

  12. Jenny Marie says:

Completely shocked the bbc would axe such a dramatic and explosive series, especially when series two has so much potential. I really enjoyed the series, I have still have so many questions, so I hope Sam is back soon!

“Hunted” is a v. good show is entertaining –it is escapism , diligently played by a great team of artists.
Frank Spotnitz should follow his intuition and take the lead by getting us a second season!

To the “Hunted” team: artists, producers etc.–keep up the good work..we greatly appreciate you !
