Inferno 999 On Five

Inferno 999

Returns Monday 3rd September, 7.30pm on five

Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, the Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service are on the front line - on call to deal with fires, emergencies and accidents. For the largest fire service in the UK outside of London, who respond to over 52,000 incidents a year, there is no such thing as an average day at work for its crews – with no one incident, fire or situation ever the same.

Inferno 999 gets to the heart of death-defying fire-fighting situations, as it follows the daily lives of fire officers from the Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service. Utilizing the very latest camera technology, this eight part series provides unique access to the work of the fire officers. Using pioneering camera technology, firefighters are rigged with cameras housed in heat resistant casing, allowing the series to get to the very centre of the action and reveal the unseen world.

The first episode sees crews come to the rescue of a mother and daughter trapped in a ferocious house fire – a rescue which resulted in the Watch being awarded a commendation for bravery and individual recognition for two of the crew. The Watch also tackle two car fires, deal with an arson attack on a disused building and take control of a blaze which had started in a bedroom.

Revealing the dangers faced by the crew inside a burning building from toxic fumes, extreme heat and smoke, to the danger of falling debris and unsafe structures, the series reveals the hazardous conditions and extreme pressures the officers face. Inferno 999 records the frightening reality of the firefighter’s working lives - from roadside rescues to going deep inside burning buildings – scenarios where a few seconds can make the difference between life and death.
