iTunes Festival 2013 Day 14 Preview: Everybody dance its Chic featuring Nile Rodgers

by Martin

The iTunes Festival is packed with a variety of musicians from different eras and genres this year and tonight is a classic band from the 1970’s.

Tonight American disco and R&B band Chic featuring Nile Rodgers will be taking to the stage tonight at the Roundhouse in London to perform at the annual event.

Chic first formed way back in 1976 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards (bassist). Chic are best known for their successful disco hits including ‘Everybody Dance’, ‘Le Freak’, ‘Good Times’ and ‘Dance Dance Dance (Yowsah Yowsah Yowsah) to name a few.

In October 2012 the band were nominated for a seventh time to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Since they formed in 1976 the band have released eight studio albums with the most recent being in 1992. They’ve also released two live albums and three compilation albums with the most recent being ‘Nile Rodgers presents The Chic Organization: Up All Night’ which was released earlier this year.

Chic featuring Nile Rodgers will take to the stage tonight at the Roundhouse in London from 9pm and what more could you ask for on your Saturday night.

Ahead of the performance by Chic tonight will be Janelle Monáe who is set to perform at around 7:45pm.

Janelle Monáe is an American R&B and soul musician who made her mark in 2003 when she released her first unofficial EP ‘The Audition’.

The young star officially debuted when she released the EP ‘Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase)’. The EP had a slight impact commercially where it peaked at Number 115 on the Billboard charts in the US.

Janelle Monáe then released her debut studio album in 2010. ‘The ArchAndroid’ was the sequel to her first EP and received acclaim from critics and managed to get the star nominated for ‘Best Contemporary R&B Album’ at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards.

In March of 2012 Janelle Monáe worked with the band fun. on their track ‘We Are Young’ which reached Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 which gave her a first as she made her first appearance in the US Top 10.

Monáe released her second studio album The Electric Lady on September 10th, 2013.

Tonight, in my opinion will be a highlight of the entire festival. Chic featuring Nile Rodgers will be outstanding as will I’m sure Janelle Monáe who kicks off the night from 7:45pm.
