The iTunes Festival only has a few weeks left but there are still some pretty big names left to perform.
Tonight’s performance will be from American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars.
30 Seconds to Mars as the band is normally stylized as first formed in 1998 in Los Angeles.
30 Seconds to Mars are Jared Leto (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards), Shannon Leto (drums, percussion) and Tomo Miličević (lead guitar, bass, strings and keyboards).
Since forming 30 Seconds to Mars have released four studio albums.
Their self titled debut album was released back in 2002. Their second album ‘A Beautiful Lie’ was released in 2005.
30 Seconds to Mars went on to release ‘This Is War’ in 2009 and most recently ‘Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams’ in 2013.
The band have sold over 10 million albums worldwide as of May 2013 and this figure is still growing.
30 Seconds To Mars have been slotted into various genres including progressive metal and alt rock and the band have also been compared to Pink Floyd who have apparently been a huge influence on the band themselves.
Jared and Shannon Leto formed the band in 1998 and began as a family project.
In an interview Jared Leto spoke out about the bands name:
“For us, the name Thirty Seconds To Mars has little to do with space, the universe or anything like that. It is a name that works on several different levels.”
“Most importantly, it is a good representation of our sound. It’s a phrase that is lyrical, suggestive, cinematic, and filled with immediacy. It has some sense of otherness to it.”
“The concept of space is so overwhelming and all encompassing I doubt there is a song written that doesn’t fall within it.”
The iTunes Festival returns tonight when 30 Seconds to Mars take to the stage from 9pm.
Ahead of their performance support will be provided by three brothers known as The Family Rain who will take to the stage at 7:45pm.
