ITV pulling the plug on appearances from Katie Hopkins on This Morning

by Martin

Outspoken Katie Hopkins has appeared on ITV’s flagship morning broadcast ‘This Morning’ quite a bit recently in various debates where she has shared her controversial views.

Last Friday (29th of November) a police helicopter crashed into a pub in Glasgow and the following day Hopkins took to Twitter and shared a message which was completely unnecessary.

The helicopter crash which killed nine people was a tragedy in itself without Katie Hopkins tweeting a completely irrelevant “fact”. The timing of which couldn’t have been any worse.

Taking to Twitter the day after the crash – which for Scotland was also St Andrews Day Katie Hopkins tweeted: “Life expectancy in Scotland based 07/08 birth is 59.5. Goodness me. That lot will do anything to avoid working until retirement.”

This for obvious reasons didn’t sit well with many – not just people from Scotland and a petition was quickly started up which at present has 86,707 supporters.

The petition read:

Katie Hopkins has since tweeted: “My tweet on Scotland was directly related to this article: … …. I apologise to those I offended. It was poor timing”

That however hasn’t stopped ITV who have commented in a statement saying: “We have no plans for Katie Hopkins to appear on This Morning at this present time.”

Other stations who would have been made aware of the campaign have yet to comment though Katie Hopkins has recently been linked with the next series of Celebrity Big Brother.

Though we now wonder if Channel 5 would take such a huge risk to placing the former Apprentice contestant on the air for such an extended period of time.

Katie Hopkins hasn’t seem phased by the campaign in the slightest however as she’s used the link several times to direct her “followers” to sign other petitions.

Did ITV make the right decision? Should the other stations follow in ITV’s footsteps and ban her from future appearances? What about Celebrity Big Brother? Should Channel 5 take such a huge risk? Would it draw in more viewers?

No ‘reputable’ tv channel should consider her input newsworthy or representative of their viewers. KH needs to engage her brain cell before operating her mouth.
